I. INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW
Sprint has attained a leadership position in the
international data communications marketplace through its
unique role as an International Record Carrier, public data
network service provider and manufacturer of advanced
technology packet-switching networks.
Sprint operates the world's largest public data network,
linking people, businesses and countries from PC to PC,
computer to computer and network to network worldwide.
INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION
-----------------------
As telecommunications undergoes deregulation around the world,
Sprint is taking its experience abroad by directly
extending its network wherever permitted by law. Sprint's
goal in this effort is to offer its full array of advanced
services on a global scale in a seamless integration of
domestic and international services.
SUPPLEMENTS PTT SERVICES
------------------------
In extending its network, Sprint's intention is not to
replace, but to supplement the successful working relationships
developed over the years with foreign networks, typically
operated by Postal, Telephone and Telegraph administrations.
Sprint continues to strengthen its successful working
partnerships with these networks in order to provide our
customers with the benefits derived from our efforts to pursue
new service developments, joint marketing efforts and further
enhanced interoperability.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICATIONS AND BENEFITS
---------------------------------------
The SprintNet data network provides network subscribers
with a wide range of international business applications such
as time-sharing, file transfer, financial management, message
processing, scientific research and credit verification. In
addition to providing the fastest, most efficient form of data
transmission available today. The SprintNet data network
ensures flexibility, reliability, compatibility, accuracy and
economy of communications.
EASY INTERNATIONAL ACCESS
-------------------------
SprintNet is easily accessible in the U.S. with a local
phone call from thousands of cities and towns or by using
Sprint's In-WATS service and from virtually any country
throughout the world. Sprint's International Gateway
conforms to CCITT 1984 Recommendations and offers a reliable,
cost-effective interface between SprintNet and other
international networks.
SIMPLICITY OF CONNECTION
------------------------
Connecting hosts and terminals to the public network requires
no basic changes to a user's computer software or hardware.
SprintNet supports many popular synchronous protocols and
just about every asynchronous terminal on the market today.
The intelligence built into the SprintNet concentrators and
switches provides the needed interface flexibility. Any
X.25 host offering public service that connects to SprintNet
can be accessed by an overseas or domestic asynchronous terminal user.
NETWORK STRUCTURE
-----------------
SprintNet consists of high-speed transmission facilities
interconnected by switching centers in major U.S. and
international cities. These switching centers, or Sprint Access
Centers form the backbone of the network. They handle
terminal and host connections, tie in remote access localities,
and route data to its destination. The backbone for SprintNet
includes international satellite and cable facilities
interconnecting to Sprint's international gateway
using CCITT X.75 transmission links.
NCC-MONITORED OPERATION
-----------------------
Overseeing this system of communication links is the Network
Control Center (NCC) - the key to reliable network operation
and a unique feature of SprintNet. The NCC continuously
monitors network status and assists in diagnosing and
correcting malfunctions.
CARRIER SERVICES
----------------
In 1982 Sprint was granted permission by the Federal
Communications Commission to become an International Record
Carrier. This was the first time in 50 years that such
permission was granted. Sprint's status as an IRC
effectively allows it to provide end-to-end international
packet-switching services through operating agreements with an
overseas counterpart, which is usually a Postal, Telephone and
Telegraph (PTT) administration.
Sprint provides international packet switching services to
more than 100 international locations. Sprint has direct
connections through its international gateway to virtually all
of the world's major communications markets. Sprint also
provides transit services to other North American and worldwide
networks.
II. INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS
ACCESS OPTIONS
--------------
There are two methods of access available to connect to
SprintNet for the purpose of establishing international data
communications - through dial-up access or dedicated lines.
DIAL ACCESS SERVICE
LOCAL TELEPHONE ACCESS
-----------------------
SprintNet is accessible nationwide with a local phone call from
thousands of cities and towns or by using Sprint's In-WATS
service. Upon connection to the SprintNet, the subscriber
must follow the procedures outlined in section 5 of this
database to originate an international call.
Dial-up service is appropriate for customers who wish
to access an overseas host.
NUI REQUIREMENT
---------------
An NUI (Network User Identification) account is required
for dial-up users to originate an international data call
to most locations. Details on NUI accounts are included
below.
CHARGES
-------
In addition to the monthly NUI account charges, dial-up
users will incur charges based on call duration (connect
time) and volume (traffic measured in kilocharacters,
kilosegments or kilopackets) for the amount of data
transmitted during the session.
DEDICATED ACCESS SERVICE
DAF LINK
--------
In order for a subscriber to connect to SprintNet on a dedicated
basis, a Dedicated Access Facility (DAF) link is established
between a customer's host computer and a convenient Sprint
Access Center. A DAF is appropriate for customers who
1) have a large volume of traffic and/or 2) wish to receive
inbound traffic from foreign networks.
An NUI account may be required for some DAF subscribers to
originate an international data call. This requirement is
dependent upon the host set-up at the time of subscription.
CHARGES
-------
In addition to the monthly account charge and monthly DAF
equipment charge, the subscriber will also usually incur
both duration and volume charges to originate an international
data call.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
REQUISITE FORMS
---------------
Several application forms must be completed to obtain
international data service via SprintNet. These application
forms may be obtained from any of the Sprint sales offices
listed in this database.
LEAD TIME
---------
The following lead times represent guidelines for service
establishment. There is more potential for variance in
setting up leased line service. Check with your representative
for an estimate at subscription time.
Dial-up Service: Approximately 10 working days
Leased Line Service: Approximately 45 days
OVERSEAS DATA SERVICE
PTT SERVICES
------------
International access to SprintNet has traditionally been
available worldwide through packet switching services
provided by overseas administrations. These administrations,
generally referred to as Postal, Telephone and Telegraph (PTT)
authorities, provide the local service to subscribers who
wish to connect to SprintNet in the U.S. Each PTT administers
its packet switching services independently of Sprint.
UNIQUE SERVICE OFFERINGS
------------------------
Local service offerings, access procedures, tariff structures,
order procedures and billing methods vary from country to
country. Section 2 of this database contains details on
country-specific service offerings, rates and service contracts.
SPRINT SERVICES
------------------
The overseas expansion of SprintNet will enable us to provide
customers with all of the enhanced features and functions
that are currently available domestically.
ONE STOP SHOPPING SERVICES
--------------------------
Customers may subscribe directly to Sprint for the
provision of overseas data service on PTT networks. Sprint
will function as the single point of contact for the ordering and
installation of service, resolving customer problems and
also centralized Sprint billing for all international
network access and account charges in U.S. dollars. Please
refer to Section 3 of this database.
INTERNATIONAL DATA COMMUNICATIONS
---------------------------------
Sprint's international packet switching network provides
the fastest, most efficient form of data transmission
available today. Furthermore, Sprint's high-speed
switched network provides a wide range of service to a
large and increasing number of overseas locations. Other
benefits include:
COST SAVINGS
------------
Sprint's global data network provides an inexpensive way
to communicate with overseas locations. Costs are reduced as
users share the lines simultaneously. The cost savings
realized via SprintNet are significant when compared to
traditional data services such as Telex, international
telephone and dedicated leased lines.
COMPATIBILITY
-------------
Sprint adheres to X.25 and other CCITT standards to
ensure compatibility with packet switching networks
worldwide. SprintNet also supports the interconnection
of a wide range of user equipment, speeds and protocols.
FLEXIBILITY
-----------
With the intelligence built into Sprint's equipment,
individual terminal users can access different hosts over
the same connection.
RELIABILITY
-----------
Sprint's network switches are designed to adaptively
route traffic to avoid failure.
ERROR DETECTION
---------------
Sprint's packet switching procedures contain error detection
and correction techniques which ensure virtually error-free
data transmission.
NETWORK MANAGEMENT
------------------
Sprint's Network Control Center assumes the responsibilities
of network management, leaving users more time for other
administrative functions.
III. NETWORK USER IDENTIFICATION (NUI) ACCOUNTS
A. OVERVIEW
DEFINITION
----------
An NUI is an ID/Password which is required to obtain access
to an overseas network or host.
PURPOSE
-------
An NUI account is usually required to send a prepaid call
through SprintNet to an overseas network or host or from
overseas to the U.S. The NUI serves to identify the caller
to the network for billing purposes. Without an NUI, the
call would be billed to the destination host address
(i.e., collect). Since most overseas networks or hosts
do not allow destination paid (collect) calls, an NUI is
necessary to originate traffic. Please refer to section 5
of this database for a listing of overseas access points
that accept collect calls. As Sprint continues to
expand its network overseas, the number of access locations
with collect call availability will increase.
USER REQUIREMENTS
-----------------
All asynchronous dial-up users must have an NUI account to
originate a prepaid overseas data call.
While NUI accounts are usually only required for dial-up
users, leased line customers whose hosts are not set up to
send prepaid calls must also obtain an NUI account to
originate overseas traffic. The host set-up is established
at subscription time.
NUI APPLICATION
---------------
Overseas - Please refer to the country-specific page
in Section 2 of this database for the service contract.
Service availability, requirements and lead time vary
on a per country basis. Customers may subscribe directly to
Sprint to obtain NUIs on foreign networks. Please refer to
Section 3 for details on Sprint's One Stop Shopping Service.
TYPES OF NUI ACCOUNTS
---------------------
Host-Specific / Prepaid
Non Host-Specific / Prepaid
B. HOST-SPECIFIC / PREPAID
DEFINITION
----------
This type of NUI account restricts caller access to a
specific destination address.
WHO USES IT
-----------
An overseas host (e.g., database service provider) may obtain
a number of host-specific NUI accounts for distribution to
their Sprint/USA clients, who access Sprint via an
asynchronous interface.
A corporate host in the U.S. may utilize host-specific NUI
accounts for the purpose of controlling access.
RESTRICTION
-----------
This type of NUI account may not be used to connect to
another host.
BILLING ARRANGEMENT
-------------------
All Sprint network access and NUI account charges are
billed directly to the NUI account holder.
C. NON HOST-SPECIFIC / PREPAID
DEFINITION
----------
This type of NUI account allows caller access to any destination
address for which the user has been authorized access.
WHO USES IT
-----------
Asynchronous terminal users who wish to make international calls
to different overseas hosts need to use this type of account.
BILLING ARRANGEMENT
-------------------
All Sprint network access and NUI account charges are billed
directly to the NUI account holder.
D. NUI ACCOUNT CHARGES (ID/PASSWORD ACCOUNT CHARGES)
INSTALLATION MONTHLY
ID/PASSWORD ACCOUNTS CHARGE CHARGE

ONE STOP SHOPPING SERVICE
Overview
--------
One Stop Shopping Service was developed to meet the increasing
demand by multinational corporations and organizations for
international support and consolidated billing services.
The features of the offering are as follows:
- Single point of contact - Sprint - for the ordering
and installation of service, in addition to customer
problem resolution.
- Centralized Sprint billing for all international
network access and account charges in U.S. dollars.
- Dial or dedicated access service on foreign public
data networks.
Dial Access
-----------
Dial Access Service provides foreign NUI (ID/Password)
accounts for U.S. multinational customers which enable
local dial-up access via foreign packet-switched data
networks to hosts connected to the SprintNet.
Dedicated Access
----------------
Dedicated Access Service provides X.25 DAFs (Dedicated
Access Facilities) on foreign packet-switched data
networks for U.S.-based multinational customers with
hosts located in overseas sites
Service Provided in Cooperation with PTTs
------------------------------------------
One Stop Shopping Service is provided with the cooperation
of the major PTTs (Postal, Telephone and Telegraph
administrations) around the world to enable Sprint
to provide international managed data services to our
multinational customers. The significance of these
operating agreements is that they underscore the strength
of our working relationships with the foreign administrations.
Standard International Networking
---------------------------------
Typically, users must subscribe to a separate organization
(usually a PTT) in each country where they wish to obtain
data communications services. The PTTs usually require
a local billing address and only provide service for
subscribers permanently located within their country.
Thus, the multinational corporate user must contend
with multiple service providers and invoices in various
currencies to conduct international networking.
Benefits of One Stop Shopping
----------------------------
The benefit of One Stop Shopping Service is that it
provides users with a single vendor solution - Sprint -
for the ordering and establishment of overseas data
service, in addition to centralized billing in the U.S.
for all foreign account and usage charges.
One Stop Shopping Service alleviates the user from the
frustrations and problems involved in coordinating
international data service.

INTERNATIONAL X.75 INTERCONNECTIONS
X.75 is the international standard that defines the procedures for the
transfer of data between different packet switched networks linked via
international circuits.
The following chart provides a listing of Sprint International's
X.75 duration and volume charges for international data calls on traffic
originating on SprintNet in the U.S. and terminating on a foreign network..
The Footnotes section of this chart provides more detailed
information for a number of the listed rates.
Where a location is listed as "incoming," a call must originate from that
foreign location for communications to occur; the call cannot originate on
SprintNet for termination in these locations. Please note that interactive
communications are possible once a virtual call has been established.
*********************************************************
ALTHOUGH WE HAVE LISTED RATES FOR ALL LOCATIONS WHERE WE PROVIDE
X.75 INTERCONNECTIONS, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO SUGGEST THE USE OF
SPRINT INTERNATIONAL'S DIAL AND DEDICATED SERVICES (DATACALL

HOW TO PLACE AN INTERNATIONAL DATA CALL
I. UNIFORM INTERNATIONAL ACCESS PROCEDURES
With the international expansion of the SprintNet data network,
addressing formats for international data calls have never
been easier! Simply follow the same instructions for placing
a call between two U.S. locations, and US Sprint will do the rest!
II. INTERNATIONAL HOST ADDRESS FORMAT
The X.121 international address format illustrated in the
diagram below pertains to SprintNet subscribers who are
placing a data call to an overseas host. Prior arrangements
must be made with the overseas host to secure the appropriate
host address.
The sign-on required to access locations outside the United States is
identical to the domestic sign-on except that the destination address of
the foreign host must be entered in the international addressing format.
International Address Format
This chart describes the components of an international address.
Example Address: 0XXXXXXXXXXXX

IV. Destination Paid (Collect) Calls
US Sprint allows destination paid (collect) calls to a number
of the overseas locations that it serves. The ability to place
destination paid calls is dependent upon the agreement by the
overseas administrations and the U.S. carriers to allow these
type of calls. This capability means that the user has the
flexibility of either incurring the cost of the call in the
United States or having the host incur the cost of the call.

SPRINT INTERNATIONAL
TROUBLE REPORTING AND ESCALATION PROCEDURES
International Procedures
Trouble Reporting
Trouble reporting procedures provide a framework of uniform
processes for dealing with Customer problems, network events, and
equipment failures. The aim of these procedures is to apply
network management and maintenance resources to meet established
mean time-to-repair (MTTR) goals.
Trouble Priorities
Sprint International assigns priorities to trouble tickets
according to the severity of the problem they represent. These
guidelines apply:
Priority Definition Examples
1 Complete single Customer single connection outage.
Customer outage International connection down with-
out alternate route.
2 Partial single Customer outage when alternative
Customer outage connection is available. Inter-
national connection down when
an alternate route is available.
3 Transient or Slow or degraded response.
degraded service
4 No customer Cards on back-up, table change
impact. required.
Mean Time To Repair Objectives
Sprint International's mean time to repair objectives vary
according to the importance of the problem. These objectives for
the various categories of service problems are:
Priority 1 4 Hours
Priority 2 12 Hours
Priority 3&4 5 Days
Sprint International treats degraded service issues as Priority 2
problems and slow response or poor throughput issues as priority 3
and priority 4 problems respectively.
Problem Information
The achievement of these objectives requires almost continuous
attention to serious problems and the use of all the network
management tools available. The basis for solving any Customer or
network problem is collecting information about the problem.
Sprint International must collect at least the following
information about each problem reported:
Destination network address,
Source network address,
Name and phone number for destination contact,
Name and phone number for the source contact, and
Details of the problem, clearing and diagnostic codes if
available, and the trouble ticket number of any other open
trouble report(s) that relates to the problem.
IVAN and Messaging customers will report troubles during normal
business hours to the in-country help desk. Where no help desk
exists or after normal business hours, the customer may call the
Global Technical Support freephone number. Requests for Global
Maintenance dispatch will be made through Global Technical Customer
Support.
Global Technical Customer Support. . . . . . (703) 318-7740
*Please see International Customer Support number listing in the Sales Support
Section of the bulletin board for Free Phone number listings by country.
In response to a report, Sprint International will provide
a ticket number to the caller that will become the reference for
any future correspondence about the problem. Sprint International
will also give the caller as much information as is available about
the problem and an estimate concerning service restoration.
Sprint International will open a trouble ticket for every problem reported
by a Customer. Sprint International will also open a trouble
ticket for every network event reported on surveillance tools such
as the line down monitor, network color monitor, and TPRF printer.
A trouble ticket provides a point of reference for the Customer,
helps account for time spent in various phases of the trouble
resolution process, and helps identify trends. It also provides
background information for the trouble escalation process, when
required.
Supervision
The First Level Supervisor is responsible for assigning resources
to meet the MTTR goals for tickets referred to that referral group,
informing adjacent networks about the problem where appropriate,
and escalating problems to the attention of the Second Level
Manager.
Escalation
The Second Level Manager is responsible for administration of the
trouble reporting process, monitoring the progress on active
trouble reports, and escalating trouble reports to Third Level
based upon the following schedule:
Escalation Path P1 P2 P3 P4
Supervisor 2 hrs 4 hrs 8 hrs 3 days
Manager 8 hrs 8 hrs 3 days 10 days
Director 12 hrs 3 days 7 days As needed
VP 16 hrs 5 days As needed As needed
The Second Level Manager is also responsible for escalating
problems to the management of central offices, management of
connected PTTs, Administrations, Providers, as well as telco
management personnel when they exceed the above escalation
guidelines. The same principles and schedules apply to requests for
escalation received from Customers.
The First level of escalation is the Supervisor of International

Second through Fourth level escalations are arranged after business hours with
the NMC operators that can be reached at the First level telephone and
messaging number and addresses.
Network Maintenance
Sprint International conducts routine maintenance on the
international network weekly at 1.00 A.M. GMT on Sunday. The Sprint
International NMC notifies the connected network management
points-of-contact well in advance in instances where service may
possibly be interrupted so that they can notify local Customers.
In instances where scheduled maintenance is required at other
times, the NMC coordinates the time and location with the connected
network on a case-by-case basis.

locations by placing an international direct distance dial
(IDDD) telephone call to a SprintNet public dial-in port,
and then accessing SprintMail using normal procedures.
In countries where a public data network does not exist,
this is one option for connecting to SprintMail.
SPRINTMAIL X.121 ADDRESSES
--------------------------
In order to access SprintMail from international locations the
caller will use either MAIL at the @ sign (for International
SprintNet access centers) or one of the following X.121
addresses if using DAF access (dedicated access facility):
311090900818 (TM11 System)
311090900819 " "
311090900629 (TM22 System)
311090900630 " "
311090900650 (TM33 System)
311090900651 " "

Users should determine from their company's SprintMail
Administrator or call Customer Service at 703-318-7740 in
the United States to find out which system they are on in
order to use the associated X.121 address (for DAF access only).
PC SPRINTMAIL 2.1, PC SPRINTMAIL FOR WINDOWS, PC TELEMAIL
---------------------------------------------------------
PC SprintMail may be used by users for access to SprintMail via
the International SprintNet Data Network. In situations
where a SprintNet node is not located, a user can access
SprintMail and use PC SprintMail by connecting via an
INTERNATIONAL DATA NETWORK and by modifying the appropriate
local logon sequence which is configured in the CONFIGURATION
file of the PC SprintMail or Telemail software.
International access procedures when using an INTERNATIONAL
DATA NETWORK and set-up configurations, as well as details on
international binary file transfer information by country, are
posted to a bulletin board called INFORMATION.EXCHANGE. To
obtain this information type: "CHECK INFORMATION.EXCHANGE" at
the Command? prompt when using SprintMail. At the Action?
prompt type "SCAN SUBJECT 'INTL'" and check the Subject field for
the desired international access procedures. Please call Customer
Service at 703-318-7740 should you require additional assistance.
MAC SPRINTMAIL
--------------
MAC SprintMail is now available for our customers using
Macintosh computers. The SprintMail service can be accessed
by our users via connection to our International SprintNet
Data Network. In situations where a SprintNet node is not
located, a user can access via an INTERNATIONAL DATA NETWORK.
Access to the INTERNATIONAL DATA NETWORK and SprintMail can
be accomplished by designing a Preconnect Script within the
MAC SprintMail software. This script works well for those
users requiring a log-on from a workstation on a LAN
(local area network) or behind a PBX network.
Please refer to the MAC SprintMail Guide (Chapter 7 - Sessions)
for detailed instructions. However, should you require assistance
in designing your script, please contact Customer Service at
703-318-7740.

INTERNATIONAL SPRINTMAIL ACCESS GUIDELINES
------------------------------------------
In the case of international administrations that presently
permit only caller-paid (prepaid) calls from their networks to
SprintNet (as well as a few collect call countries mentioned
earlier), subscriber accounts for packet switched data services
must be established locally in that country in order to utilize
the international data network to access SprintMail. Each
country maintains it own access procedures some of which are
provided in Section 2 of this database's main menu. A
separate account for using SprintMail must also be established
with Sprint. For large multinational accounts, Sprint can
provide assistance to the customer in establishing an
international NUI or DAF account through our International
"One Stop Shopping Service" (for further details, please
see section 3 of the Main Menu).
INTERNATIONAL CHARGES/BILLING ARRANGEMENT
-----------------------------------------
3......Access to SprintMail via International Telephone Network (IDDD)
The international user of SprintMail would pay standard
international telephone rates to the USA. The SprintMail
host charges would appear as a regular (domestic) SprintMail
session on the customer's SprintMail invoice. SprintMail
rates are time dependent with this option.

SPRINTMAIL MESSAGE DELIVERY
TO
INTERNATIONAL ELECTRONIC MAIL SYSTEMS
-------------------------------------
SprintMail users have the ability to communicate with electronic
mail users all over the world. Through our international gateway,
X.400, users can send messages to and receive messages from:
- users on other PUBLIC electronic mail systems (ADMD)
- users on other PRIVATE electronic mail systems (PRMD)
X.400 communication takes our users beyond SprintMail by bridging
to other messaging systems, as well as fax and telex users, around
the globe.
The privilege to send and receive X.400 messages must be approved
and registered by your organizational administrator. If you do
not know who your organizational administrator is, please contact
Customer Service in the United States at 703-318-7740.
REQUIREMENTS FOR USING X.400 SERVICE
------------------------------------
All users of the X.400 service must follow the addressing requirements of
their respective electronic mail SprintMail user, the
addressing requirement is as follows:
In the To: or CC: field of your message, enter
Example #1

Example #2
(SITE:TELEMAIL, O:ORG.NAME, SN:SURNAME, FN:FIRSTNAME)
where...SITE = the equivalent of C and ADMD
ADDRESSING EXAMPLES
-------------------
To send messages to the ENVOY 100 system in Canada and the MAILNET
and ELISA systems in Finland, the following addressing syntax

QUICK ADDRESSING TO X.400 SYSTEMS (NICKNAME FEATURE)
----------------------------------------------------
For frequent communications to users on other PUBLIC and PRIVATE
systems, SprintMail users can save their X.400 addresses as a
short, easy-to-remember NICKNAME (e.g., John). This is
accomplished by typing NICKNAMES at the Command? prompt and
selecting Option #1 from the Menu. Next, select Option #5,
Create a Free-form NICKNAME. This option allows you to format
your NICKNAME according to your specific needs.
After your NICKNAME(s) have been created, you can use the NICKNAME
in the To: and CC: fields of your message. There is no rekeying
required. Please note that you can have multiple addressees within
a NICKNAME. You can also enter as many NICKNAME(s) in your message
as you like.
Should you have any questions or require assistance using the NICKNAMES
feature, please contact Customer Service in the United States at
703-318-7740.
QUICK ADDRESSING TO X.400 SYSTEMS (SHORT.ADDRESS FEATURE)
---------------------------------------------------------
The SHORT.ADDRESS feature is another SprintMail option for
saving X.400 addresses under a quick, easy-to-remember name.
Unlike NICKNAMES, the registered SHORT.ADDRESS can be used
by several or all individuals in a SprintMail organization
with designated access. The SHORT.ADDRESS registration is
accessed through a SprintMail script by typing COMPOSE
SHORT.ADDRESS at the Command? prompt.
Once the SHORT.ADDRESS is registered by your administrator,
you will receive a message that it is available for use.
Should you require assistance creating or accessing a
SHORT.ADDRESS, please contact Customer Service at 703-318-7740.
DIRECTORY OF AVAILABLE INTERCONNECTED SYSTEMS
---------------------------------------------
The SYSTEMS command is the on-line directory service feature
which displays the names of other messaging systems (PUBLIC
and PRIVATE) currently interconnected with the SprintMail system.
The options for accessing this information include:
SYSTEMS Displays the names of all messaging
systems interconnected with the
SprintMail system (PUBLIC and PRIVATE).

INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC SYSTEM DELIVERY (LOCAL)
--------------------------------------------
Through interconnects established with various international
public message handling systems, users can now subscribe
locally to a national electronic messaging service in another
country and still communicate directly with users registered on
SprintMail. The SprintMail service provides this interconnect
capability in accordance with X.400 industry standards.
DEMO MAILBOXES ON INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC SYSTEMS
----------------------------------------------
Demo mailboxes have been established on the international
messaging systems to allow US Sprint Field Sales representatives
to demo the SprintMail public system delivery capability for
customers or prospects. Customecontir Sales representative

DEMO PROCEDURES
STEP 1
------
Compose a message in your mailbox on the SprintMail USA
system and in the "TO:" field of the envelope enter the
appropriate "INT'L DEMO MAILBOX X.400 ADDRESS" listed above,
including the parentheses. When complete, type "Y" at the
"Send?" prompt. If desired, you can use the delivery
receipt feature (DEL) to receive a confirmation-of-delivery
message back to your mailbox. An example of the "TO:" field
of the envelope for a message sent to SprintMail Ltd. UK is
shown below:
TO: (C:GB,PUB:TMAILUK,O:CCI,UN:TM.DEMO) (DEL)
Once you have typed "Y" followed by a carriage return, the
message will be sent to the demo mailbox on the international
messaging system via the international interconnection.
STEP 2
------
To retrieve the message and verify delivery for the
customer, you will need to connect to the international messaging
system via SprintNet and directly access the demo mailbox. To
do this, first type "BYE" to disconnect from SprintMail.
You will then receive the SprintNet "@" prompt on your
PC/terminal. After SprintNet gives an "@" prompt
you will need to enter your SprintNet NUI (ID/Password
account). Type "ID", skip a space, and then enter your PDN
ID code followed by a carriage return. Next the SprintNet
will prompt you for "PASSWORD=". Enter your password
followed by a carriage return.
NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE A U.S. SPRINT NUI FOR DEMO
PURPOSES, PLEASE COMPLETE A U.S. SPRINT "USER ID ORDER
FORM" AND MAIL IT TO:
Order Entry Department
U.S. Sprint Communication Corporation
12490 Sunrise Valley Drive

The top of the form should be filled out as follows:
Customer Name = US Sprint
Master Agreement No. = (LEAVE BLANK)
Customer Number = (LEAVE BLANK)
Sales Office Log No. = (LEAVE BLANK)
Customer Admin. = Office Administrator
Admin. Phone No. = Office Phone Number
Fill in the body of the form as necessary and put "For
Internal US Sprint Use" in the comments section.
The form must be signed by your branch manager for
approval.
For general information on NUIs, please refer to
Sections 2 and 3 of the International Services
Handbook.
STEP 3
------
After you have correctly entered your NUI (ID/Password), the
SprintNet will again prompt you with an "@". At this
point, type "C", skip a space, and then enter the "international
MESSAGING SYSTEM NETWORK ADDRESS" provided above followed by
a carriage return. For example, to connect to the
SprintMail messaging host in UK you would type the
following at the SprintNet "@" prompt:
C 0234212300187
Please note that all the international network X.121
addresses shown on the list above ALREADY have been
proceeded by a 0 (zero), which is the SprintNet terminal
handler for formatting the X.121 address.
STEP 4
------
SprintNet will respond with a "CONNECTED" notice,
after which you will receive the "User name?" prompt from
the international messaging system. Enter the appropriate user
name from the table above, followed by a carriage return.
The name after "UN:" is the user name. In the case of the
UK, the user name would be "TM.DEMO". Next you will be
prompted for "Password?". Enter the correct demo mailbox
password followed by a carriage return.
NOTE: TO OBTAIN THE APPROPRIATE PASSWORD FOR A DEMO
MAILBOX, PLEASE SEND A REQUEST ON SPRINTMAIL TO
SALES.SUPPORT. PASSWORDS WILL BE PROVIDED ONLY ON AN
AS NEEDED BASIS. IN YOUR MESSAGE,PLEASE INDICATE THE
NAME OF THE CUSTOMER THE DEMO IS FOR AND THE DESIRED

to show the customer the contents of the message and verify
delivery.
STEP 6
------
If you wish to demo the service in the reverse direction,
type "Compose" at the "Command?" prompt and address a
message to your mailbox or the customer's mailbox. In the
"TO:" field of the envelope you must follow the X.400
addressing format, as follows:
TO: (C:USA,PUB:SPRINTMAIL,O:XXXXXXX,UN:YYYYYY)
where XXXXXXX is the Organization name
and YYYYYYY is the User name
STEP 7
------
At the "Command?" prompt type "BYE" followed by a carriage
return to disconnect from the international messaging system.

FAX
---
SPRINTMAIL FAX
All SprintMail subscribers have the capability to use the SprintMail Fax
service to send messages from their mailbox to any Group III facsimile
machine worldwide. This service is also available to users on any
private electronic mail system connected to the SprintMail service
via X.400.
Fax messages are delivered through Sprint's global data network. This
network utilizes high speed data links in conjunction with U.S. and
international fax-delivery gateways to provide a reliable and
error-protected transmission of fax messages all around the world.
BENEFITS AND FEATURES
---------------------
SprintMail Fax eliminates the need for multiple fax machines or special
fax PC cards by allowing fax messages to be sent directly from a user's
desk, using either a PC, terminal, word processor or workstation. Other
key benefits and features of SprintMail Fax are summarized below.
- Automatic Retry: Eliminates the need to stand in line or
manually retry message transmissions, as is common with
traditional fax machines. With SprintMail Fax the first
delivery attempt is typically within 3 minutes. If
unsuccessful, SprintMail will retry up to 10 times in 2
hours to deliver the message. If delivery cannot be
accomplished after 2 hours, an UNDEL message is posted to
the sender's mailbox.
- Cover Sheet: All SprintMail Fax messages are delivered
with a cover sheet. The cover sheet includes standard
envelope information, as well as a page count, date/time
of transmission and attention line.
- Automatic Compression: If any line in the message
exceeds 80 characters, the compression feature will
reduce the print size used for the entire message. The
maximum length per line of text is 132 characters.
- Page Break: Using a "Ctrl L" on a line by itself will
invoke a page break in the message. Automatic page
breaks occur on every 55 lines of text.
- Broadcast: Multiple fax numbers can be stored in any one
of three list types:
o Distribution List
o Short.address
o Nickname
The same message can be broadcast to all recipients on the
list. The listing can also be created to include distribution
to SprintMail user mailboxes, telex addressees, as well as X.400
addressees.
SENDING MESSAGES VIA SPRINTMAIL FAX
-----------------------------------
The SprintMail Fax service is accessed through SprintMail using
the standard "COMPOSE" command, or interactively through either
the "COMPOSE DESKTOP" or "COMPOSE FAX" scripts.
To create a message for delivery via the SprintMail Fax service,
specific information must be included in the address field of the
envelope.
The To: and/or CC: field will contain various components that
signify and direct the message to be delivered to a fax
machine. Those components include: RECIPIENT'S FULL NAME
(company or personal), FAX SERVICE IDENTIFIER, and FAX ADDRESS.
RECIPIENT'S FULL NAME
---------------------
It is important to include the full name of the party being
addressed. The RECIPIENT's FULL NAME can be entered in upper
and/or lower case. Up to 20 text characters, excluding commas
and parentheses, can be included in this field.
SERVICE IDENTIFIER
------------------
The next component within the To: and/or CC: field is the FAX
SERVICE IDENTIFIER of "FAX:". This identifier directs SprintMail
to transmit the message via U.S. Sprint's global fax delivery
network.
FAX ADDRESS
-----------
The third key element in the To: and/or CC: field is the
recipient's FAX ADDRESS, i.e., telephone number. For U.S.
destined fax messages, the fax number will be 10 digits in
length and must begin with the appropriate area code. For
international fax numbers, the maximum length permitted is 28
digits. International fax addresses must begin with an
international access code ("011" or "+" sign) and be followed
by the appropriate country code, city code and local telephone
number of the fax machine. The numbers comprising the FAX
ADDRESS can be separated by hyphens "-" or blank spaces for
clarity, if desired, but are optional.
EXAMPLES OF ADDRESS FIELD FORMAT
--------------------------------
U.S. Fax Numbers:
To: Mr. Jones (FAX:703-689-5176)
CC: Mr. Smith (FAX:7036895086)
International Fax Numbers:
To: Mr. Winslow (FAX:011-44-1-910-4321)
CC: Mr. Howell (FAX:+4418491234)
RETURN RECEIPT
--------------
To receive a confirmation of delivery, the user can request
a RETURN RECEIPT by adding "(REC)" to the address, as follows:
To: Mr. Winslow (FAX:011-44-1-910-4321) (REC)
EXAMPLE OF A CONFIRMATION MESSAGE
---------------------------------
The format of a RETURN RECEIPT or confirmation of delivery
notice is basically the same as other SprintMail direct
delivery capabilities. An example is given below:
Posted: Tue., Dec. 31, 1990 1:15 P.M. EST MSG SGIJ-2360-9059
From: Delivery

TGIH-2360-9036 posted at Dec. 31, 1990 1:13 P.M. EST
Return Receipt Msg delivered at Dec. 31, 1990 1:15 P.M. EST
EXAMPLE OF NON-DELIVERY NOTICE FOR FAX MESSAGE
----------------------------------------------
If the fax message cannot be delivered for any reason,
SprintMail will inform the user by generating an UNDEL or
non-delivery notice. The UNDEL message will indicate the
reason SprintMail Fax was unable to delivery the message and
the selected fax number. An example is shown below:
Posted: Tue., Dec. 31, 1990 1:15 P.M. EST MSG SGIJ-2360-9059
From: Delivery

- Alternate routing in the event the fax machine is busy or
not in operation
- Customer logos and signatures
- Transmission using the "PRIVATE", "REGISTERED" and
"URGENT" delivery options on SprintMail
PRICING STRUCTURE
